Monet Art Book
This is a lovely little book.
Paint Like Monet, by James Heard – This is a delightful book about the life of Monet and the work he created. He spent most of his life as an artist and painter – well into old age. And, even when his sight was failing him.
A quick quote from the book – I found this interesting… “Congestion in the galleries was matched by the crowded hang of the walls. The pictures were so close together that the traditional red walls could scarcely be seen. When the impressionist paintings were hung in the galleries of Paris’s modern art museum, the Luxembourg, in 1896, the artists complained that the pictures were hung too close together. …(this) had a big impact on framing. Artist needed to isolate their work from their neighbors, and so the gilded frames became wider during the 19th century.”
Some good history and nice imagery. If you want to paint along, you can do that, too!
