Why Cardboard You Ask?

Card Boards

I work on lots of different types of surfaces. Cardboard, illustration board, paper, wood. They are all delightful and carry their own unique properties and textures. Before working on cardboard or wood I coat the surface with 3+ layers of an archival gesso, and sometimes a matte medium layer, to protect the painting from yellowing.

I am not a Renaissance painter – my substrate (my painting surface) can show it’s beauty and imperfections. For me it adds to the uniqueness and interest of the painting or collage. It’s also a great way to turn what would be recycled or thrown into the earth into art. Something to treasure and enjoy for many years to come.

Cardboard is often thought of just something for packaging and then tossed. But, it’s so much more.

Google Cardboard Art – you’ll be surprised how exciting cardboard can be!

Come and check out my process here.
